Description

The SMART P detectors have been designed to fulfil the latest European Standard on gas detection in car parks, with the capability to detect CO, NO2 and petrol vapours. The P-2 is a dual sensor detector able to measure CO along with either NO2 or petrol vapours and both devices offer RS485 communication as standard.

The accumulation of toxic gases in enclosed or semi-enclosed vehicle spaces—such as underground or multi-storey car parks—can pose a serious threat to public health and safety. Emissions from vehicles, particularly carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), and petrol vapours, can quickly reach hazardous levels in these confined environments without adequate ventilation or gas detection.

To address this risk, the SMART P series gas detectors from Sensitron have been specifically developed for continuous air quality monitoring in car parks and similar facilities. These detectors provide reliable, real-time detection of the most common vehicle-related pollutants, helping to ensure a safe environment for drivers, pedestrians, and staff alike.

SMART P-1 – Single Gas Detection

The SMART P-1 is a compact, cost-effective solution designed for detecting a single gas—either CO, NO₂, or petrol vapours—depending on your site requirements. It offers a focused approach to gas monitoring, ideal for locations with known emission profiles.

SMART P-2 – Dual Gas Detection

For enhanced safety and operational efficiency, the SMART P-2 offers simultaneous detection of two gases—always CO, combined with either NO₂ or petrol vapours. This dual-sensing capability provides broader coverage and increased protection against the build-up of harmful exhaust gases in high-traffic or poorly ventilated areas.

Both the SMART P-1 and SMART P-2 models come equipped with RS485 Modbus communication as standard, enabling seamless integration with modern Building Management Systems (BMS), ventilation controls, or alarm panels. This allows facility managers to respond quickly to elevated gas levels, triggering ventilation systems or alarms as required.

Most importantly, the SMART P detectors are fully compliant with EN 50545-1:2011, the European standard that governs the performance and functionality of gas detection systems in car parks and tunnels. This ensures that your installation not only meets legal and safety requirements, but also provides dependable long-term protection.

FAQs
What are the SMART P-1 and SMART P-2 gas detectors designed for?

The SMART P-1 and SMART P-2 are fixed gas detectors specifically engineered for monitoring toxic and flammable gases in enclosed or semi-enclosed vehicle areas, such as underground car parks and tunnels. They are designed to detect hazardous gases like carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), and petrol vapours, ensuring safety in environments where vehicle emissions can accumulate.

What is the difference between SMART P-1 and SMART P-2 detectors?

The SMART P-1 is a single-gas detector capable of monitoring either CO or NO₂. In contrast, the SMART P-2 is a dual-gas detector that simultaneously monitors CO and either NO₂ or petrol vapours. This dual-detection capability provides enhanced safety by covering multiple potential gas hazards in one device.

Which gases can these detectors identify, and what are their detection ranges?

Both detectors are designed to identify specific gases:

  • Carbon Monoxide (CO): 0–300 ppm

  • Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂): 0–30 ppm

  • Petrol Vapours: 0–100% Lower Flammable Limit (LFL)

The SMART P-1 can detect either CO or NO₂, while the SMART P-2 can detect CO in combination with either NO₂ or petrol vapours.

What type of sensors do these detectors use?

The detectors utilise different sensor technologies based on the gas being monitored:

  • Electrochemical Sensors: Used for detecting CO and NO₂, offering high sensitivity and specificity.

  • Catalytic Sensors: Employed in the SMART P-2 for detecting petrol vapours, providing accurate measurements of flammable gases.

How are the SMART P detectors powered and connected?

Both detectors operate on a 12–24 V DC power supply and feature RS485 serial communication, allowing integration with control panels such as the MULTISCAN++PK system. This setup facilitates centralized monitoring and control of multiple detectors within a facility.
