Gas Detection Tubes
Gas detection tubes are a highly effective solution for detecting a wide range of gases. At Rockall Safety, we stock over 120 different Drager gas detection tubes, covering toxic, flammable, and industrial gases. These tubes are designed to provide rapid measurements on the spot.
To use the gas detection tubes, break both ends of the tube using the tube opener. This ensures the reactive chemicals inside are ready to interact with the sampled air. The tube is then inserted into the Drager Accuro gas detector pump, which draws a precise, calibrated volume of air through the tube.
As the air passes through, the gas reacts with the chemicals inside the tube, causing a colour change along the printed scale. The length of this colour change corresponds to the concentration of the target gas, allowing for an accurate, immediate reading.
Industries that commonly use Drager gas detection tubes include oil and gas, chemical manufacturing, construction, environmental monitoring, and wastewater treatment. They are ideal for confined space checks, leak detection, verifying ventilation, and identifying potentially hazardous atmospheres before work begins.
While portable gas detectors offer continuous monitoring, gas detection tubes are often chosen for their ease of use and affordability.
Rockall Safety has a strong, long standing relationship with Drager, allowing us to supply the full range of gas detection tubes alongside all necessary accessories, including the pump and tube opener.

FAQs
Dräger gas detection tubes are single use colourimetric tubes designed to measure specific gases or vapours in air. Used with a compatible hand pump such as the Dräger Accuro Pump, the tube changes colour to indicate the concentration of the target gas.
Each Dräger tube contains a chemical reagent that reacts with a specific gas. Air is drawn through the tube using a pump and if the target gas is present, the reagent changes colour. The length of the colour stain corresponds directly to the gas concentration.
Dräger tubes are available for detecting carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulphide, ammonia, benzene, chlorine and formaldehyde.
Accuracy typically falls within ±10-15%, depending on the specific tube and environmental conditions.
Unlike your typical gas detection devices, Dräger tubes do not require calibration. Each tube is factory calibrated and sealed for single use.
Most Dräger tubes have a shelf life of approximately two to three years from the date of manufacture.
Dräger gas detection tubes are strictly single use. Once air has been drawn through the tube and a reading has been taken, the chemical reaction is complete and the tube cannot be reused.
