The FL500 can detect a variety of fuels, including n-heptane, methanol, methane, propane, butane, and ethane. Detection distances range from 40 to 90 ft depending on the fuel, with response times from under 3 seconds to 12 seconds for reliable early warning.

How does the detector minimise false alarms?

The FL500 uses dual UV/IR sensing (185-260 nm UV and 4.35 microns IR) combined with continuous COPM self-checks every two minutes. This ensures the optical path is clear and the electronics are functional, providing fast flame detection while filtering out false signals.

What environments is the FL500 suitable for?

The detector is certified for use in hazardous locations, including:

  • Class I, Div 1 (Groups A*, B, C, D)

  • Class II, Div 1 (Groups E, F, G)

  • Class III, Type 6P
    (It also meets IP66/IP67 standards for dust and water ingress and is suitable for SIL 3 systems.)
