Pentane (C₅H₁₂) is a colourless, highly flammable liquid hydrocarbon that belongs to the alkane family. It has a characteristic petrol-like odour and evaporates quickly at room temperature. Pentane is commonly found in petroleum and natural gas processing, as well as being used as a solvent in laboratories, chemical industries, and the production of polystyrene foam.
