Description
Honeywell Sensepoint XCD Fixed Gas Detector
The Honeywell Sensepoint XCD is a fixed-point gas detector and transmitter designed to monitor combustible, toxic, and oxygen gas hazards in potentially explosive environments. Available in three versions: flammable, oxygen, and toxic, the Sensepoint XCD provides tailored detection solutions for a wide range of industrial applications. Each version uses specific sensor technologies to ensure accurate gas monitoring in various operating conditions.
The flammable version uses a catalytic sensor to detect flammable gases within a range of 0 to 100% LEL (Lower Explosive Limit). An infrared (IR) sensor version is also available for detecting methane within the same 0 to 100% LEL range, as well as propane (with cross-sensitivities to ethylene and butane) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) at concentrations from 0 to 2.00% v/v. Both catalytic and IR sensors are used with the flammable version of the transmitter, offering flexibility depending on the target gas and environment.
The oxygen version features an electrochemical (EC) sensor that monitors oxygen levels between 0 and 25% v/v, making it suitable for detecting both oxygen deficiency and enrichment. It does not measure energisation. The toxic version also uses EC sensors to detect gases such as carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulphide (H₂S), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂), and hydrogen (H₂).
The XCD transmitter is a robust, weatherproof unit designed for use in hazardous areas. It includes a built-in LCD display that shows real-time gas concentration, alarm status, and battery condition. Configuration and control can be carried out using a magnet switch, which allows users to adjust settings without opening the unit in dangerous environments.
Versatile and reliable, the Sensepoint XCD is ideal for use in oil and gas production, chemical processing, pharmaceutical manufacturing, food and beverage processing, power generation, and wastewater treatment. It is easy to install and maintain, has a long service life, and provides a cost-effective solution for protecting people and property from gas-related hazards.
Additional features include the option to mount the sensor remotely up to 30 metres (100 feet) from the transmitter, an intrinsically safe design for hazardous areas, built-in diagnostics for self-monitoring and fault detection, and a battery life of up to five years. The device complies with international safety standards including ATEX, IECEx, and CSA.
