What is R407C Refrigerant Gas?

R407C is a refrigerant gas commonly used in air conditioning, heat pump, and commercial refrigeration systems. It is a blend of three refrigerants:R32, R125, and R134a and was developed as a replacement for the older refrigerant R22. R407C provides similar cooling performance to R22 and does not damage the ozone layer, making it a safer option in that respect. It is non-flammable and low in toxicity, but it has a relatively high global warming potential, which means leaks should be avoided and systems should be properly monitored and maintained.

Where is R407C Refrigerant Gas Found?

R407C refrigerant gas is commonly found in commercial and industrial air conditioning systems, heat pumps, and chillers. It is widely used in office buildings, shopping centres, hotels, hospitals, and factories, particularly in systems that were originally designed for or converted from R22. R407C is also used in some commercial refrigeration applications, making it a common refrigerant in larger cooling and climate control systems.

Is It Worth Detecting R407C Refrigerant Gas?

Yes, it is worth detecting R407C refrigerant gas because leaks can pose safety, environmental, and operational risks. Although R407C is non-flammable and low in toxicity, high concentrations can displace oxygen in enclosed spaces, creating a risk of suffocation. It also has a high global warming potential, so detecting leaks early helps reduce environmental impact.

Teledyne OLCT 100 XP-IR

The Teledyne OLCT 100 XP-IR is well suited for detecting R407C refrigerant gas in air conditioning, heat pump, and chiller applications. The detector can monitor R407C concentrations up to 1,000 ppm and operates reliably across a wide temperature range of -20 °C to +60 °C, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor installations. It delivers accurate and consistent readings with a typical accuracy of ±15% between 20 and 70% of full scale and performs effectively in humidity levels from 20 to 95%.
