Honeywell XNX Fixed Gas Detector Warnings and Errors Codes

XNX warning and fault codes indicate a range of issues with the device and its connected sensors. These can include communication failures, sensor faults, calibration errors, and system-related problems. Each code requires specific troubleshooting steps to resolve. Below are the warnings and error codes you may encounter for the Honeywell XNX Fixed Gas Detector:

Troubleshooting the Honeywell XNX Fixed Gas Detector

Before addressing individual fault codes, try the following:

  • Soft Reset
Some faults (e.g. F161) can be cleared by performing a soft reset via the XNX calibration menu.
  • Check Wiring
Many faults are caused by poor or incorrect wiring between the XNX and connected sensors (such as Optima Plus or Excel).
  • Calibration
Warning messages may indicate that calibration is overdue. Recalibrate the instrument as required.
  • Sensor-Specific Checks
For sensor-related issues, refer to guidance for the specific sensor type (e.g. EC or IR).

Fault Codes

F106: Real Time Clock Failure

Indicates an incorrectly set clock or a failing internal battery. If the battery has failed, the XNX POD may need replacing.

Note: Due to firmware limitations, the clock will stop running on 1 January 2036.

Fault - clock - circle

F161: mA Input Fault

Typically caused by a faulty mA signal from a connected sensor.

Troubleshooting:

  • Check wiring connections
  • Perform a soft reset
  • Replace the sensor if required
Fault - 4-20mA - circle

F158: Sensor/Personality Part Number Mismatch

Indicates a mismatch between the installed sensor and the transmitter configuration.

Action: Ensure the sensor part number matches the XNX configuration.

Fault - Sensor - circle

Fault 2: Cell Failure

Indicates an issue with the sensor cell.

Action: Check connections and replace the sensor if necessary.

Fault - Sensor fault - circle

Fault 3: Negative Reading

Suggests a calibration issue.

Action: Recalibrate the unit.

Fault - Negative reading - circle

Fault 4: EEPROM Corruption

Indicates corrupted internal memory.

Action: Reconfigure the unit using the mobile app. If the issue persists, contact support.

Fault - Chip - circle

Fault 9: Sensor Fault (CH:xx)

Indicates a sensor failure.

Action: Check wiring and replace the detector if required.

Fault - Sensor fault - circle

Fault 10: mA Output Error

Indicates a fault with the mA output module.

Action: Replace the module.

Fault - 4-20mA - circle

Fault 11: Relay Output Error

Indicates a relay module failure.

Action: Replace the relay module.

Fault - Relay - circle

Fault 12: Detector In Fault

Indicates a detector-related issue.

Action: Check detector connections.

Fault - Connection - circle

Warning Codes

W001: Power Supply / Operation Warning

Indicates issues with power supply or general operation.

Action: Check power input and consider adding environmental protection (e.g. sunshade).

Fault - Power - circle

W002: Temperature Warning

A short (2-second) warning indicating excessive temperature.

Action: Relocate the XNX or improve ventilation to prevent overheating.

Fault - Temperature - circle

W006: Sensor Warning

Indicates a potential sensor issue, possibly due to interference or sensor-specific faults (e.g. Optima Plus or Excel).

Fault - Sensor warning - circle

W009: Sensor / Diagnostic Warning

Indicates a sensor fault or diagnostic frequency issue.

Action: Check wiring and ensure the correct sensor type is installed.

Fault - Diagnostic - circle
